How to Pair a Firestick Remote — Quick Method
Hold the Home button on the Alexa Voice Remote for 10 seconds. The Firestick will detect the remote and pair it automatically. This works for most situations where the remote has lost connection or is new.
Your Firestick remote pairs automatically during the initial setup. You only need to manually pair it if: (a) the remote has stopped working, (b) you have a replacement remote, or (c) you are adding a second remote.
How to Pair a Firestick Remote — Step by Step
Ensure the Firestick is powered on
Your TV should be on the correct HDMI input and showing the Fire TV home screen.
Check the remote batteries
Old or low batteries are the most common cause of pairing failure. Insert fresh batteries if you have not done so recently.
Hold the Home button
Press and hold the Home button (the house-shaped icon) on the remote for 10 seconds. The remote will flash an amber light and attempt to pair.
Wait for confirmation
A notification will appear on screen confirming the remote has paired. If nothing happens after 10 seconds, try again.
Test the remote
Press a few buttons to confirm the remote controls the Firestick correctly.
Remote Will Not Pair — Troubleshooting
- Replace the batteries — low batteries are the most common cause
- Move closer to the Firestick (within 3 metres) during pairing
- Restart the Firestick by unplugging the power, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging back in
- After restarting, wait for the home screen to fully load before trying to pair again
- Hold the remote within 30cm of the Firestick during the pairing attempt
- Check if the remote is already paired to a different Firestick device

How to Use the Fire TV App as a Remote
If your physical remote is lost or not working, you can use the free Amazon Fire TV app on your iPhone or Android phone as a temporary remote. Download it from the App Store or Google Play. As long as your phone and Firestick are on the same Wi-Fi network, the app will detect your device and allow full control.
How to Connect Firestick Remote to TV Volume
By default, the volume buttons on the Alexa Voice Remote control your TV's volume via HDMI-CEC. Most modern TVs support HDMI-CEC. If the volume buttons are not controlling your TV:
Go to Settings → Equipment Control
Navigate to Settings, then Equipment Control.
Select Manage Equipment
Choose TV from the list.
Follow the prompts
The Firestick will guide you through detecting your TV brand and setting up volume control.
